Pemako Thimphu

Pemako Thimphu is centrally located in the middle of the city. It’s imposing structure dominates the Thimphu’s skyline, mirroring the fortresses (Dzong) of ancient Bhutan. The traditional murals and colours adorning the walls and ceilings are a good first introduction to Bhutanese architecture. Pemako Thimphu offers comfort and luxury. It’s 66 suites and rooms alongside restaurants, bar and tea lounge as well as a swimming pool and world class gym will ensure that you have an enjoyable stay.

Its remote and secluded location has helped in preserving its originality, both in terms of culture and landscapes. Bhutan is a place where one can find inner peace, connect with nature, appreciate culture, and experience a slower pace of travel.

In January, temperatures can fluctuate from -6 to 12°C. Snowfall is more likely to occur in higher altitudes, subject to daily weather patterns. Place like Punakha is less likely to experience snowfall, due to their lower altitude. Otherwise, the days are usually warm, bright, and sunny.

Winter Season

February marks the conclusion of winter in Bhutan. The country's weather varies across different altitudes, with high altitude regions such as Thimphu, Paro, and Bumthang experiencing significantly colder temperatures ranging from 0°C to -4°C during night and 5 - 12°C at day. Conversely, lowlands in Punakha and the east of Bhutan are relatively warmer, with temperatures that can soar to 26°C.

End of the Winter

The weather and climate are comfortable in almost all parts of the country. Despite the terrain differences, the temperature has entered a period for overall rising. Average temperature from 5°C- 14°C in higher altitude places like Thimphu, Paro, and Bumthang. Then, 10°C - 22°C in lower altitude place like Punakha.

The sky remains to be remarkably clear through the entire country while the air, affected by still less rainfalls and low humidity, maintains to be dry, but not as dry as in winter since in the capital city Thimphu, the rain falls first.

The Beginning of Spring

During April, Bhutan transforms into a picturesque and blooming paradise, showcasing flourishing flora against the backdrop of majestic mountains. Thimphu, the capital, maintains a temperature range of 7°C - 20°C, with Bumthang being slightly cooler and Punakha, a lower altitude area, being slightly warmer. While snow still persists in the mountains, it enhances the scenery, providing an awe-inspiring view for visitors.


Early April also marks the Paro Tshechu Festival, a highly sought-after event that spans few days and attracts a significant number of tourists.

Jacaranda Season

May in Bhutan is characterized by cool weather, with temperatures averaging from 6 to 16°C around Paro, Thimphu, Phobjikha, and Bumthang, and slightly warmer in Punakha. Towards the end of the month, rainfall tends to increase. Despite the precipitation, May provides ample opportunities to explore Bhutan's nature trails, trek through its forests, and witness the blooming of rhododendrons.

Entering the Monsoon

In late June, Bhutan experiences heavy rainfall during the monsoon season, particularly in the southern regions. The north may have visibility issues due to low-hanging clouds. Despite the lack of sun, the weather remains warm, and the scenery is lush. However, many parts of Bhutan are humid, with temperatures ranging from around 10°C in Thimphu, Paro, Phobjikha, and Bumthang to almost 30°C in Punakha.

Warm Weather

July in Bhutan is marked by warm and humid weather. However, fewer tourists visit during this time, resulting in less traffic and congestion at popular tourist spots. Hiking is not advisable during this time. Temperature varies across the country, with Paro, Thimphu, Phobjikha, and Bumthang ranging from 13°C to 23°C, and Punakha around 19°C to 30°C.

Humid Weather

During August, the monsoon season in Bhutan is concluding, and intermittent rainfall permits hiking trails, while temperatures range from 12°C to 22°C. It's worth noting that higher altitude regions may be cooler than lower ones.

End of the Monsoon

As the monsoon season ends, the pleasant weather makes it an ideal time for trekking and hiking. The average daytime temperatures range from 20°C - 25°C in lower valleys, providing comfortable conditions for outdoor activities, while higher altitudes places may be slightly cooler.

Ideal for Outdoor Activities

October in Bhutan is marked by moderate temperatures ranging from 7°C - 18°C, cool evenings, and mostly dry weather with clear, blue skies. These climatic conditions make it an ideal time to explore the country's natural splendor and historic landmarks. The temperate climate and dry spells make for stunning vistas of golden and silvery-white paddy fields and snow-capped peaks. 

Commencing from the end of September with the Thimphu Festival, October is abundant with festive celebrations throughout the nation.

Festival Season

Bhutan presents a mesmerizing experience in November, characterised by refreshing autumn air and ideal conditions for outdoor activities. The first half of the month offers breathtaking mountain views and dry weather, making it an opportune time to explore monasteries or trek through the picturesque Phobjikha Valley. Additionally, the Black-Necked Crane festival occurs during this month only in Phobjikha Valley. The birds migrates to Bhutan from late October to mid-February.


As winter approaches, temperatures tend to decrease gradually. However, the average daytime temperature still ranges from 10°C - 20°C in the lower valleys. In higher altitudes, temperatures can drop to 14°C in Paro and roughly 7°C in the Phobjikha Valley.

Black-Necked Crane Festival

Bhutan enters its winter season in December, characterised by cool and dry weather. During this time, the temperature in Paro can drop as low as -4°C at night, while some eastern valleys experience daytime temperatures averaging up to 25°C. Bhutan's landscape in December is a combination of warm, sunny, snowy, and green, presenting an idyllic scenery. Although not all locations receive snowfall, it contributes to the country's allure.
